Understanding Pet Loss Grief
Pet loss is a unique kind of pain, one that’s often minimized or misunderstood by others. Society tends to recognize grief after human loss, but not always after losing a beloved animal companion.
Why I Offer Pet Loss Therapy
As someone who has had about 12 dogs, among other pets, throughout my life, I’m very familiar with pet grief.
After losing my beloved pit bull to bladder cancer in 2023, I committed to providing pet loss therapy to others. So many people in my life had no idea how to support me, and quite frankly, said all the wrong things.
Pet Loss Therapy May Be Right for You If:
You’re tired of hearing clichés from family or friends and need someone to simply hold space for your feelings.
You’re experiencing feelings of hopelessness and helplessness over your pet’s declining health.
You aren’t sure if you’re ready for a new pet, and have a lot of conflicting feelings about it.
You feel intense guilt over the manner in which your pet died, including decisions around euthanasia.
You want to talk to someone who truly understands what your pet meant to you.
What You Can Expect
Pet loss therapy provides gentle, nonjudgmental support through conversation and reflection. Together, we can explore your grief, find ways to honor your companion’s memory, and help you feel grounded again. Whether through telehealth or walk and talk therapy (for NJ residents in and around Brick Township, NJ), this space is about helping you heal at your own pace.
